Guide to Editing Products and AI Content Generation

1. Accessing the Product Edit Page
From the product list page:
- Find the product you want to edit.
- Click on the product's title or an "Edit" button/icon associated with that product.
This will take you to the Product Edit page, which is packed with fields and options.
[Imagine a screenshot of the top section of the Product Edit page here]
It would show the product title, breadcrumbs, and action buttons like "Back", "Save Changes", "Publish to Shopify".
2. Understanding the Product Edit Page Layout
The Product Edit page is typically divided into sections:
- Action Buttons: At the top, you'll find buttons like:
- Back: Returns to the product list.
- Save Changes: Saves any modifications you've made to the product within our tool.
- Publish to Shopify: Pushes the current product data to your live Shopify store (we'll cover this in more detail later).
- Main Product Form: This is where you edit all product details. It's usually split into logical groups like "Basic Information" and "SEO & Variant Info".
- Edit History Sidebar: A panel on the side (often sticky) that shows a log of changes made to the product in the current session or recently. This allows you to track edits and potentially revert them.
3. Editing Basic Product Information
This section usually contains the core details of your product.
3.1. Title *
Field:title
This is the main name of your product. It's crucial for customers and SEO.
AI Assistance: You'll often see an AI Generate button next to the title field. Clicking this opens the AI Modal (explained in section 5) to help you craft compelling titles.
3.2. Handle *
Field:handle
The handle is the URL-friendly version of your title (e.g., yourstore.com/products/
sample-product-title
). It's usually auto-generated from the title when you type in the title field or if the handle field is empty. You can also manually edit it.
There's often a Regenerate button to update the handle based on the current title.
Tip: A good handle is short, descriptive, and uses keywords. The system automatically makes it URL-friendly (lowercase, dashes for spaces).
3.3. Description *
Field:description
(uses Quill editor)
[Rich Text Editor (Quill) for product description appears here]
This is where you describe your product in detail. Our tool uses a rich text editor that allows you to format text (bold, italics, lists, headers, links).
AI Assistance: Look for an AI Generate button, typically below the description editor, to help write or improve your product descriptions.
3.4. Tags *
Field:tags
Tags are keywords that help organize your products and can be used by customers to filter products in your Shopify store. Enter them separated by commas.
AI Assistance: An AI Generate button can suggest relevant tags based on your product title and description.
4. Editing SEO & Variant Information
This section helps you optimize your product for search engines and manage variant-specific details.
4.1. SEO Title *
Field:seo_title
This is the title that appears in search engine results (e.g., on Google) and in browser tabs. It can be different from your main product title. If left empty, it often defaults to the main product title.
AI Assistance: Use the AI Generate button for SEO-optimized title suggestions.
4.2. SEO Description *
Field:seo_description
This is the short description that appears below your title in search engine results. It should be a concise and compelling summary. If left empty, it might default to a snippet from your main product description.
AI Assistance: The AI Generate button can help create effective meta descriptions.
4.3. Image Alt Text *
Field:image_alt
Alt text (alternative text) describes your product images for visually impaired users and search engines. It's important for accessibility and SEO. This field typically sets the alt text for the main product image or all images if supported by the publish function.
AI Assistance: An AI Generate button can create descriptive alt text.
4.4. SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) *
Field:sku
A unique code to identify your product. It's essential for inventory management. The system might auto-generate a basic SKU from the title if this field is empty initially.
4.5. Price *
Field:price
The price of your product. Ensure you enter it in the correct format (e.g., 19.99).
* Fields marked with an asterisk are usually required before you can publish the product to Shopify.
5. Using the AI Content Generation Modal
When you click any AI Generate button, a modal (pop-up window) appears:
[Imagine a screenshot of the AI Generation Modal here]
It would show: Modal Title (e.g., "Generate Title"), Prompt Select, Original Content, Generated Content, and action buttons.
- Modal Title: Indicates which field you're generating content for (e.g., "Generate Title", "Generate Description").
- Select Prompt: Select a prompt & Prompt 1 for Title & Prompt 2 for Title
- Choose a pre-defined prompt from the dropdown. Prompts are tailored to the type of content (Title, Description, etc.) and are managed by admins and users (see
Prompt
model and admin settings). - Prompt Text (Optional Display): Sometimes, the text of the selected prompt is displayed in a read-only area so you know what instructions the AI will use.
- Original Content: Shows the current content of the field you're working on (e.g., the current product title). This provides context to the AI.
- Generate Button: Generate
- Click this to send the request to the AI. You might see a loading indicator (e.g., "Generating content...").
- Generated Content: Once the AI finishes, the suggested content will appear here. For descriptions, any Markdown or HTML code blocks (like
```html ... ```
) are usually cleaned up automatically. - Apply Button: Apply
- If you like the generated content, click "Apply". This will update the corresponding field on the Product Edit page with the new AI-generated content and close the modal. This change will also be logged in the Edit History.
- Cancel/Close Buttons: To close the modal without applying changes.
Important: Using AI generation usually consumes credits from your subscription. The tool will typically warn you if you're low on credits.
6. Saving Your Changes
After making any manual edits or applying AI-generated content, remember to click the Save Changes button at the top of the page. This saves the product data within our tool. It does not immediately update your live Shopify store.
Local Save vs. Publish: "Save Changes" saves to our system. "Publish to Shopify" updates your actual Shopify store. They are two separate actions.
7. Understanding the Edit History
The Edit History sidebar is a powerful feature:
- Tracks Changes: Every time you change a field (manually or via AI) and it loses focus, or you apply AI content, an entry is added to the history.
- Details: Each entry usually shows:
- The field that was changed (e.g., Title, Description).
- A timestamp (e.g., "5 minutes ago").
- A snippet of the old value and the new value.
- Whether it was an AI generation or a revert action.
- Actions per Entry:
- View Details: Opens a modal showing the full old and new values, which is especially useful for long descriptions.
- Revert to This Version: Allows you to change the field back to its old value from that history entry. You'll usually be asked for confirmation.
- Remove from History: Deletes that specific history entry.
- Clear All History: A button to clear all history entries for the current product (with confirmation).
The history is stored locally in your browser's localStorage, specific to each product ID.
Next Steps: Once you're happy with all your edits, the final step is usually to publish your product to Shopify.
